The Reverend Michael Sgarioto, O.Carm., died in his sleep on November 2, 2013, in Teaneck, New Jersey. He was 56. Fr. Michael was born in Chicago, IL, on July 29, 1957, to the late Samuel Angelo Sgarioto and Mary Ann (MacLellan) Sgarioto. He entered the Carmelites in 1979, professed first vows in 1981, and was ordained a priest in 1985. He served as parochial vicar and later as pastor at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish and president of the parish school in Lima, Peru, for many years. He also served as Mission Awareness Program Director in Chicago, IL, as well as pastor at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Houston, TX; pastor at St. Agnes Parish in Phoenix, AZ; and lastly as parochial vicar and pastor at St. Anastasia Parish in Teaneck, NJ. He is survived by his mother Mary Ann, his brother Carl Sgarioto, (Mary), and three sisters, Joanne Ducar (Philip), Donna Ducar (David), and Paula Burns (Danny), and six nieces and nephews.
