Clarice Hunt Martin, 89, of Piney View, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 23, 1913, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Hunt and Mary Cheetham Hunt. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education as an elementary school teacher with 37 years of service. She last taught at Piney View Elementary and was a member of Piney View Bible Church. She was a graduate of Concord College with a B.A. degree in education. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Martin; two sisters, Bertha and Bessie; and a brother, Earl. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Grant and husband, Darrell, of Beckley and Polly Maiolo and husband, Arnold, of Piney View; four grandchildren, Arnold Maiolo II, Lisa Suggs, Phillip Maiolo and Leonard Hanks, all of Piney View; a sister, Edith Roberts of Beckley; a brother, Ernest Hunt of Piney View; many nieces and nephews; special cousin, Mary Hunt of Piney View; and three great-grandchildren, Kati Suggs, Samantha Maiolo and David Maiolo. Service will be 8 p.m. today at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel, Beckley, with Pastor Cecil Smith officiating. Graveside rites and burial will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Hunt Famliy Cemetery, Piney View. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Arnold Maiolo, Phillip Maiolo, Leonard Hanks, James Suggs, Darrell Grant and Kem Meadows.
