SAVANNAH - Billy H. Carter, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 as the result of a boating accident. Billy lived most of his life in Savannah, having attended school in Metter, Ga. He was employed at International Paper Company (formerly Union Camp Paper Corporation) for more than 34 years. Billy was an avid fisherman and an excellent musician. He played with former area bands including Southern Comfort, Deep South, Lone Star (which he formed) and others. His voice was once described as "vanilla pudding". Billy was very lovable and had many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dorothy McKenzie Carter, and an infant sister, Betty. Survivors include a daughter, Amy Denise Carter of Macon, Ga, Gail T. Edwards, the love of his life for 32 years, a sister Charlotte (Johnny) Young of Savannah, 2 brothers, Jerry (JoAnn) Carter of Lincolnton, Ga; Danny Carter of Metter, Ga., and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A service will be held on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at Fairhaven Funeral Home - Hubert C. Baker Chapel at 10:00 a.m. with interment at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins, Ga. At 3:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, at the Hubert C. Baker Chapel. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Chatham Association for Retarded citizens in honor of Clara Margene Thompson. Savannah Morning News November 5, 2013
