April 5, 1946:
Funeral services were held this
afternoon for H. Bertram Cessna,
assistant cashier of the First National
Bank m Bedford and one of
the town's leading citizens.
Mr. Cessna died very suddenly
Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'-
clock while working in his garden
of his home on Juliana Heights.
He had been ill with influenza for
several weeks, but had returned
to his banking duties over a week
ago and had seemed improved.
While working in the garden he
was observed falling by his family
and expired a few moments
later.
Harold Bertram Cessna was a
son of the Hon. S. Albert and
Anna (James) Cessna and was
born at Rainsburg, July 21, 1875.
He was educated in the public
schools and at the old Bedford
Academy of Dr. Colfelt. He was
graduated from Gettyburg College.
He took up the practice of
law but in 1905 .became affiliated
with the First National Bank. He
had served the First National
Bank and Trust Co. as vice president
and cashier and later served
in the capacity of assistant cashier
after its reorganization.
He was active in the Lutheran
Church and had served continuously
as treasurer of both church
and Sunday School for almost 40
years.
He is survived by his wife, the
former Sarah Margaret Ritchey
and two sons, Robert, of Alcoa,
Tenn., and Harold B. Cessna, Jr.,
of Bedford. Also by two sisters,
Mrs. Maude Orr and Mrs. John
Minnich, both of Bedford.
He was a past master of Bedford
Lodge No. 321, F. &. A. M.
and a life member and Past High
Priest of Bedford Chapter, No.
255, R. A. M.
Funeral services were conducted
this afternoon by his pastor,
the Rev. Harvey Huntley, assisted
by the Rev. George I. Melhorn of
Johnstown. Burial in the Bedford
Cemetery
