Tractor Kills Anna Farmer

A 77-year old man was fatally injured Wednesday evening when his tractor overturned at his farm, southeast of Anna.
A.W. Hancock was dead on arrival at the Union County Hospital.

Officials said the tractor overturned on a bank at the farm as he was mowing. [Lightning had struck the tractor and overturned on top of him] Mr. Hancock was pinned beneath the tractor. He was found by his wife.

An inquest into his death is scheduled for 7 pm today at the Crain-Norris Funeral Home, Coroner L.F. Pearson said. He said Mr. Hancock died from internal injuries.

Mr. Hancock leaves his wife, Helen: son, Edward: daughter, Eulah: step daughters, Mrs. Louise Farris, Anna and Mrs. Josephone Ogborn, Cape Girardeau, Mo: step-son Dellon Evans, Jefferson City, Mo: sister Alice Naegle, Murphysboro; brother Nelson Hancock, East Carondelet: six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Friends may call after 10 am Friday at the Crain-Norris Funeral Home at Anna. Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tom Walker, pastor of the Anna Heights Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery.
