Irene Magdaline Place, 98, a resident of the Milwaukie community died December 27, 2010 at her home of causes related to age. Private Cremation Rites have been held and Private Family Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Parma Cemetery in Parma, Michigan. Irene M. Place was born January 27, 1912 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Paul and Magdaline Krance Glazik. She was raised and educated in Omaha. Irene attended Crieghton University and Columbia University, having completed her doctorate degree in business administration. Irene was united in marriage in the 1930's to Darold Place. They shared over sixty years of life together before he preceded her in death on March 11, 1999. In 1966 Irene moved to Oregon after accepting a teaching position with Portland State University. She devoted fifty years to teaching students before she retired in 1972. Among her personal interests she loved to read, especially the New York Times. She wrote and published several books, she traveled internationally to promote business education and did some amazing sightseeing trips. She was a very successfull, intelligent professional woman who was ahead of her time. Survivors include her three nieces; Lorraine McCrea, Beverly McCrea Martin and Arnelda Kepka as well as many great nieces and nephews.
