Grant Morris Simons
1955 - 2013

Early Life: Grant was born November 22, 1955, to Morris Martell and Luan Elizabeth Meldrum Simons and had eleven brothers and sisters. In 1974, Grant graduated from Spanish Fork High School. He was an athlete who loved sports and would do anything to get outside and throw the football around or run sprints down Canyon Road. His nickname in high school was "Chicken Foot."
Life's Work/Service/Interests: In 1974, Grant graduated from Spanish Fork High School. He was an athlete who loved sports and would do anything to get outside and throw the football around or run sprints down Canyon Road. His nickname in high school was "chicken foot." He had a friendly, lighthearted attitude and demeanor, which he carried with him as he served a mission from 1975 to 1977 for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving and loving the people of Kobe, Japan. He went on to complete a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University, graduating in business/marketing. Grant met his sweetheart, Dawnetta while a student at Brigham Young University. On November 3, 1978, Grant was sealed to Dawnetta Jan Godfrey in the Manti Utah Temple. Their love is eternal. Grant cherished Dawnetta and they are the proud parents of four children. Grant loved the Lord and served in many church callings and positions; devoting much of his time to service and lifting others. He cherished his role as Scout Leader and loved the boys with whom he was called to help, lead and guide. He enjoyed his time as a home teacher and was often seen visiting those in need whether at a care center, rest home, helping dig a ditch or administer a blessing. He reverenced his Savior and would consistently talk about His matchless ability to succor the weak, lift up the hands which hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees. Grants ability to make others feel welcomed, loved and part of the group was uncanny. He loved socializing with people and his time spent as a route salesman for Frito-Lay for twenty years gave him an opportunity to love and interact with thousands of people from day to day and year to year. He was unpretentious and unassuming. He gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and asked little in return. Grant loved sports and would stay up late to watch Jazz games with his daughter, Rachel, or BYU football with his son, Jake. He had a quarterback's arm and could paint a picture with the football. He loved to celebrate birthdays and holidays and was always seen dressing up for Halloween and scaring the neighbor kids or putting up lights at Christmas time. He loved music, nature and his grandkids. There wasn't a moment that he was not seen talking about how much he loved his grandbabies and what he wanted to do for them. His life was not measured by gold, but by goodness. He loved and served until the end. Grant was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be dearly missed. Grant Morris Simons, of Spanish Fork, returned home to his Heavenly Father, Sunday, November 10, 2013. He was 57.
