United States Army World War II Major General. He was career Army officer graduating from West Point as a Lieutenant of artillery in 1901. During World War I, he was Commanding Officer of the 11th Field Artillery Regiment and 78th Field Artillery Regiment on the Western Front. At the start of World War II, he was the Commanding General of the Visayan-Mindanao Force, Philippine Islands. In 1942, he was Commanding General of the Central Philippines Force, Philippines when captured by the Japanese and was a prisoner of war until Japan surrendered in 1945. He retired from active service as a Major General in 1946.
