Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Rohrer funeral home in New Paris for Mrs Gladys Treese, who was fatally burned in the fire which razed the IGA Food store in Goshen, early Thanksgiving morning and damaged other adjoining business places.
Fire loss was estimated at $50,000.
The Tresses, residing in an apartment at 128 1/2 North Main Street, discovered the fire, believed to have started in the heating plant of the Goshen Bowling alley, located over Rimpler's tavern, at 130 North Main Street.
Mr and Mrs Treese were injured as they started down the steps from their apartment to the street, the woman carrying a dog and an armful of clothing.
In the Goshen hospital Mr Treese said that he believed a five gallon can of some explosive liquid left in the hallway with cans of paint exploded showering his wife with fire and throwing them both downstairs.
A fireman, Willis Kistler, of Goshen, was treated for injuries received in a fall.
Mrs Treese was born at Millersburg and would have been 51 years of age on next February 18. She was a daughter of Mr and Mrs Ira Judy.
She is survived by her husband, four sisters, Mrs Milo Heeter of southwest of Goshen; Mrs Imon Burger of southeast of Goshen; Mrs Carrie Olson of Goshen and Mrs Aubern Inebnit, rt 5 Goshen; and two brothers, Ray Judy of Bristol and Albert Judy of northwest of Goshen.
Burial was made in the Brown cemetery.
