Fanny G Allen, Latin Teacher Succumbs
Hadley – Fanny G Allen, 84, former French and Latin teacher at Hopkins Academy, died Saturday in a Northampton nursing home.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she moved to Hadley at an early age, and graduated from Hopkins Academy. A 1911 graduate of Mt Holyoke College, she studied at Western Reserve University, Cleveland. She taught in various New England high schools, and until retirement in 1954, taught French and Latin at Hopkins Academy.
She was a member of First Church of Christ Congregational, a member of Betty Allen Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Retired Teachers Association, and an active member of the Northampton Chapter of the Red Cross. She donated her body to Harvard Medical School. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Newell funeral home, Northampton, is in charge.
