Richard was a son of Thomas Jennings and Ann Williams born in Hailey, Oxfordshire, England. He married Elizabeth Pratley on March 23, 1868 and in 1871 went to Memphis U.S.A. getting into the cotton growing business. They moved to Canada and settled in Brampton in 1876 where Richard developed a very successful Nursery and Greenhouse business on the south-west corner of Union and Church Streets. They had two children born in England, Henry Francis (Harry) and Laura Ann. They had two more children born in the US, Frank J., and Kathleen (Kate). They had seven more children born in Brampton, Albert William, Mary Ann, Florence Emily, Lillian Mary, Ilo Norah, Dorothy and Henrietta Dorcas.
He is buried in Brampton Cemetery with his wife and many family members.
