"Horace G. Belcher, 86, ex-newsman, dies"
for years a Rhode Island newspaperman and amateur historian
a native of Paterson, N. J.
he was a reporter for the Providence Journal-Bulletin from 1894 to 1906
he then went to work for the new Providence Tribune, which was established by a group of newsmen who bought out the old Evening and Sunday Telegram
he wrote for the Tribune for 36 years, and retired when the paper was sold. It no longer exists.
for 17 years he was the paper's Sunday editor, and in 1912 he established one of the first automobile sections in a New England newspaper
