He bought a homestead in Camden County, Arkansas in 1895 before he married Minnie.
In 1920 Fed. Census he is listed as living on a farm in Rosboro. Included are his two grandchildren (Sam's son, Ulyses, and daughter, Allene).
He is listed in the 1930 Federal Census as living with his daughter, Esther, and son in law, Melton Crow, in Self Creek Township, Pike County, Arkansas. He was 83 and Minnie was 58 at the time.
Rumor has it they moved to Oklahoma to an Indian reservation to live. He died there in 1933. Death Certificate states he died of Uremia (kidney failure).
He was buried in Liberty Cemetery in Newhope, Pike County, Arkansas with Mary, Sara Jane, and Hugh Neal.
