Marcellus A. "Boots" Grove of Red Lion died at 12:34 p.m. July 16 at York Hospital, after a brief illness. He was 81.
Mr. Grove worked for Warner's Dairy for 60 years. He began working July 29, 1940, and never missed a day of work. After 20 years as a route salesman, he was promoted to route foreman in charge of 56 routes. Later he was promoted to general manager in charge of setting up and supervising large commercial plant and office moves. He was also responsible for coordinating the delivery of more than 80,000 cases of Girl Scout Cookies.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe in the 417th Infantry Division during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and Sunday school, Red Lion, where he was a lay leader and a former Sunday school superintendent and in charge of the ushers. He had been a guest speaker more than 1,350 times in approximately 104 churches.
He was a past president of Red Lion Lions Club, serving from 1965 to 1966. He was a member of Red Lion Retail Association, Red Lion United Way, The Industrial Management Club, The Silver Bay Club, The Delta Nu Alpha Traffic Club, Red Lion Masonic Lodge 649 Free&Accepted Masons, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple Shrine and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.
Born in Dallastown Aug. 12, 1920, he was a son of the late Clayton S. and Pescelli M. Deller Grove.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Charlotte A. Dietz Grove; a daughter, Jolene M. Whitsel of Brogue; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; four sisters, Gloria Fanucii of Enterprise, Ala., Charmaine Grove of Scranton, Lackawanna County, Dawn Overmiller of Felton and Nedra Grove Williams of Lewisberry; and two brothers, Clayton Grove of Red Lion and Lamar Grove of Felton.
Viewings are 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday with Masonic rites at 8:45 p.m. by the Red Lion Masonic Lodge 649 F.&A.M. at Burg Funeral Home Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion, and 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 45 First Ave., Red Lion. The service is at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with his pastor, the Rev. Lawrence C. Focht, officiating, and the Rev. Glenn M. Dietrich, assisting.
Burial is in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, with full military rites by York County Veterans Honor Guard.
