Marshall Epson Broyles, 92 years of age, of Somerset, Kentucky, departed this life on Wednesday, November 20th, 2013 at the Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.


Marshall was born in Plato, Kentucky on March 9th, 1921, son of the late Epson Felix Broyles and Ollie Duyck Broyles. Marshall was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, having attained the rank of Sergeant. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he returned to his home in Plato, Kentucky and later moved to the Fairborn-Dayton, Ohio area. He was employed by the Chrysler Corporation as a Crane Operator for over 30 years. He enjoyed gardening and maintaining his apple orchard. He was a member of the General Baptist Church in Fairborn, Ohio. After retirement, he moved back to Pulaski County, Kentucky.


Marshall was survived by one son, Keith (and Tina) Broyles; four nieces, Elizabeth Karen Broyles, Jennifer Flynn, Janie Scruggs, and Sandy Burton; and a host of other family and friends who mourn his passing.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Epson Felix Broyles, who departed this life on October 15th, 1944 and Ollie Duyck Broyles, who departed this life on June 7th, 1972; his wife, Dessie Bea Nicely Broyles, whom he married on April 15th, 1949 and who departed this life on February 14th, 2013; two brothers, Boyd "Buster" Broyles and Glenn Boone Broyles; and one sister, Joyce Kearney.


Visitations were held from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 21st, 2013 at the Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory in Somerset, Kentucky.


Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 21st, 2013 in the Chapel of the Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory with Rev. Donald McKinney officiating. Military honors were performed by the American Legion post No#38.


His pallbearers were: Keith Broyles, Larry Sword, Darrell Scruggs, David Burton, Ezra Sword, and Josh Sword. His honorary pallbearers were: Johnny Nicely and Mark Nicely.


Interment followed in the Burnett Chapel Cemetery.
