CHANDLER, Donald Ernest was born on November 22, 1925 in San Bernardino, California to Hazel and Ernest Chandler. He passed away peacefully in his home in Santa Barbara on July 20, 2003.

Donald graduated from the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis in 1946, beginning his twenty two year career as a Naval Officer. During this time, Donald went onto earn his Masters and Doctorate degrees in Physics from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Donald was involved in the Naval Office of Advanced Research, as well as finishing his Naval Service as a Senior Program Officer at the United States Navy Electronics Laboratory. Upon retiring from the Navy in 1968, Donald and his wife Jane moved to Santa Barbara California, where he worked for General Electric Tempo as Manager of Physical Sciences until his retirement in 1986.

Donald was an avid golfer, enthusiastic reader, and included genealogy, bonsai growing, and woodworking among his many interests after retirement. Donald and his wife Jane enjoyed international traveling for many years following his retirement.

Don was a much loved husband, father, brother, and grandfather.

Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane Cooley Chandler, daughter Laura Chandler-Jacobson of San Marcos, sons Ronald Chandler of Santa Barbara and Donald Chandler of Rancho Cucamonga, California, sisters Alma Bender of San Bernardino, Betty Hendrickson of Lancaster, Carol Ripp of San Luis Obispo. Don is also survived by three grandchildren, Meredith Stinson of Seattle, Tom Cieszynski of San Francisco, and Danielle Chandler of Rancho Cucamonga. During his final years, he was well cared for by his devoted caretakers Elena and Edith Diaz.

A memorial service will be held Saturday July 26, 2003 1:30pm at First United Methodist Church, 305 E Anapamu St, Santa Barbara.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Alzheimer's Association
