Florence Catherine "Flora" Wagner was born in 1885, daughter of Jacob Joseph Wagner and Elizabeth Barbara "Lizzie" Cromer-Wagner. Grand-daughter of Conrad Wagner & Anna Marie Tressel-Wagner, and Xavier Cromer & Barabara Balbach-Cromer.

In 1910, Flora married George Frank Backus, and they had four children: Leslie William Backus... Marie Elizabeth Backus-Venhaus... Earl George Backus... and Flora Ladell Backus-Bonds. Flora lived to be 96 years old.
