We are here to celebrate the life and home going of Laura Ella Ree Lee Pelham, a woman who lived her later life spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

She was the oldest daughter born to the late John Henry Lee Sr. and the late Mary Smith Lee on June 5, 1931, in Smyrna.

Laura was affectionately known as "Bo" by her family and friends. She was called from her labor to reward on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital, Spartanburg.

Her early education was completed in York and Cherokee County and she attended Blacksburg Colored High School, where she graduated in 1951. She received Christ at an early age while attending services with her family at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Smyrna. Laura was a faithful member of the Hymn Choir and Mass Choir, and served as secretary of the church and president of the Missionary Circle. She always had a great love for God and His people.

Laura was employed by Cherokee County Hospital and retired from the Department of Social Services after 35 years. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Stars Electra Chapter No. 12, Kings Mountain, N.C., where she served as Past Matron.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Henry Lee,Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories an adopted son, Anderson Dean Craig of Blacksburg; two loving sisters, Louise Lee Ford of Blacksburg and Evelyn Lee Yancey (Elton) of Durham, N.C.; an aunt, Essie Smith Moore of Blacksburg; a niece, Betty Ford Stroud (Otis) of Charlotte, N.C.; five nephews, S.L. Ford (Wanda), Malachi Ford (Jackie), all from Blacksburg, Alton Ford (Diane) of Duncan, Elton Kirk Yancey Sr. (Vanessa) of Timberlake, N.C., and Flay J. Lee of Charlotte; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is at the home of her sister, Louise Ford, 308 E. Cherokee St., Blacksburg.

The life and Home Going Celebration was held Thursday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. at Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Smyrna, South Carolina, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth R. Bell, the Rev. Alvin L. Lockhart, Minister Talisa K. Allen, the Rev. Otis Stroud, Sr., Minister Rebecca Bell, Minister Trini Lockhart and the Rev. Dr. Larry Brooks officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
