Caspara Carlson was born April 13, 1900 in Donna, Helgeland, Norway, daughter of the late Anton and Jorgine (Jacobson) Carlson. The family moved to Griggs County, North Dakota, in 1903. She grew up in Washburn Township and attended the Bridge School.
She was married to Halfdan Strand in McHenry in 1920. He died in 1924. She was married to Casper Aarestad May 18, 1926 in Moorhead, Minn. The couple farmed southwest of Cooperstown until they retired and moved to town. He died in 1981. A brother, Ebert Carlson, a sister, Alphild Sorvik and five grandchildren also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Aarestad is survived by three sons, Harland Strand, Hannaford, Everett Aarestad, St. Regis, Montana; and Casper, Jr., Cooperstown; four daughters, Lorraine Barr, Cooperstown; Mrs. William (Audrey) Hammer, St. Regis; Mrs. James (Rosella) Thompson, Devils Lake; and Mrs. David (Janice) Vigesaa, Billings, Montana; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Larson, Cooperstown; Mrs. Perry (Solveig) Haaland, Apache Junction, Arizona; and Olive Tessmer, Fargo; and a brother, Albert Carlson, Cooperstown.
