The wife of William David Popejoy is Louisa Elizabeth Martin not Louisa Elizabeth Cash like so many have, she is the daughter of Thomas David Martin and Mary Polly Fulkerson. I finally solved this mystery a couple of months ago. I ordered the Civil War pension application, made by the children of William David, from the National Archives. While this did not come out and give their mother's maiden name, it did name some aunts and uncles. I also did the Ancestry DNA test and matched up with a third cousin who's is decended from Benjamin Hiram Martin, he is the brother to Louisa Elizabeth Martin. That DNA match confirmaed the clues in the pension application. I am confident that the mystery is solved.

I am the daughter of Vernon Cloman Popejoy, grand-daughter of Samuel Calvin Popejoy, and great-grand daughter of William David Popejoy. There has never been an proof that Louisa Elizabeth's maiden name was Cash. It was an assumption based on the fact that two Cash famailies raised the three children. But, from what I read in the Pension application, this was done out of charity. There is an affidavit in the pension application file on William David Popejoy signed by J. M. Cash stating that fact.
