John W. "Jack" Alexander, Jr., 81, of North Webster, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, October 13, 2013 at 11:08 AM in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, Indiana.
Jack was born September 7, 1932 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to John W. and Edith M. (Brown) Alexander, Sr. He was a 1950 graduate of Langley High School, Pittsburgh.
Enlisting in the United States Air Force on January 8, 1953 in Pittsburgh, he served during the Korean War. A/1C John W. Alexander, Jr. was honorably discharged December 10, 1956 from Parks Air Force Base, California.
On August 7, 1953 in Pittsburgh he and Carol Bonner were joined in holy matrimony. In 1971 they moved their family to Kosciusko County, Indiana where they remained. Jack was a sales agent with Prudential Insurance for 28, years retiring in 1987.
He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Warsaw and was a Lay Leader within the United Methodist Church for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 253, North Webster. In addition to being a member of Mizpah Shrine Temple in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jack was a member of American Legion Post 496, Douglas Pipes and Drums and Masonic Lodge - all in Pittsburgh. He was a very talented drummer who entertained with Frank Greco at local establishments. Jack sold and performed Christian magic for many years. He had been a life member of Fellowship of Christian Magicians since 1973. He would give a flannel shirt off his back to someone who was truly in need. Jack was well known for freely giving advice. A devoted family man he truly loved his wife and even was able to secretly plan and pull off a surprise party for their 60th wedding anniversary this past August.
Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing in support of each other Wednesday, October 16th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw and again one hour prior to the service Thursday. A Broken Wand Memorial Service will take place in the funeral home Wednesday evening at 7:30. A service celebrating the life of John W. "Jack" Alexander will take place Thursday, October 17th beginning at 10 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 832 E. Center Street, Warsaw. Pastor David Hummel of Trinity United Methodist Church and Jack's brother, Rev. Robert Alexander of South Vernon United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Ohio will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, where military honors will be conducted by North Webster's American Legion Post 253.
