Jefferson G. "Jack" Waters, age 74, of Blairsville, GA died suddenly Thursday morning, July 5, 2007 in St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was a native of Bacon County, but had lived in Blairsville, GA since 1999. Jack was the son of the late Simon Claude Waters and Hattie Mullis Waters. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Darlene Waters Thomas; grandson, Anthony Wayne Waters, Jr.; and brother Clifford "Buck" Waters. He was retired from Milliken after twenty-two years and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Helen McCrea Waters of Blairsville; two sons, LaDon Waters and wife Rita and Anthony "Tony" Waters and wife B.J., all of Alma; daughter Pamela Starling and husband Leon of Alma; brother, Robert Waters of Alma; five sisters, Arlene Napier of Jesup, Maxene Davis and Claudine North, both of Jacksonville, FL, Jenelle Taylor and Diane Nails, both of Alma; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 8, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Corinth Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Yarborough officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The body was carried to the church at 1 p.m. to lie in state. Pallbearers were Richie Taylor, Randy Waters, Shane Nails, Tony Taylor, Wendell Hayes, and David Lassiter. All others in attendance were considered as honorary escorts.
