Roger A. Sherek, age 70 of Grafton, ND passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Valley Eldercare of Grand Forks from a brief, courageous battle with cancer.

Roger A. Sherek was born September 24, 1943 in Grafton, ND the son of the late Rudolph and Agnes (Maresh) Sherek. He attended school in Fordville, ND. The family moved to Grafton in 1956 and he completed his education there. Roger was employed at the Piggly Wiggly and later worked as a brick layer for Adamsen Construction. He married Verna Robinson on April 23, 1966 in Grafton. In May of 1966 he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served as Chief Petty Officer to Admiral Buckley in the Atlantic Fleet. Following his honorable discharge in 1968 he returned to Grafton and worked as a foreman for Brodeur Construction until 2000. From 2000-2004 he worked for Diversified Contractors out of Fargo, ND. He was currently working for Paul Suda Farms in Grafton.

Roger was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his two grandchildren and attended many of their events. He enjoyed time at the lake, vegetable gardening, visiting with friends, and remodeling his home.

Roger is survived by his daughter, Jana (Lee) Bell, Grand Forks, ND; two grandchildren, Skylar and Wyatt Bell, his brothers: Robert (Nancy) Sherek, Chula Vista, CA, Wendell Sherek, Riverton, WY; his sister, Patricia (Darryl) Bellerud, Winlock, Washington and six nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Darlene Sherek.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 6, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 6:00 PM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Friday for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery.
