MADISON/HOLLANDALE – Carson C. Hegland, 59 of Madison, formerly of Hollandale, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2007 at the Peter and Ellen Johnson Hospice Care Center in Fitchburg after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He left this world surrounded by his loving family.

Carson was born July 7, 1948 to Otto and Viola (Olson) Hegland of Hollandale where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Hollandale High School in 1966 where he was an outstanding athlete in baseball, basketball and football and the first recipient of the Coogan Norton Memorial Award.

In 1971 Carson married Christine McCarville and they lived in the Hollandale area where they raised their three children, Jaime, Kyle and Tessa. He was employed at Federal Industries of Belleville, WI for over 30 years. Carson was a sports enthusiast all his life and never missed a game or match no matter where or when his kids participated or coached. Carson was very proud of his children and his favorite times were spent with them.

In September Carson enjoyed a trip to Texas with his family to attend Kyle and Ashley's wedding. After his diagnosis, earlier this month, Carson moved to Madison to live with his daughter and his ex-wife, Christine. These past few weeks Carson has been surrounded by the love and care of his family while being entertained by his adorable "Sweetie Pie" granddaughter, Hannah.

Carson is survived by his son, Jaime (Stephanie) and their daughter, Hannah of Lone Rock, WI, his son, Kyle (Ashley) of Mullen, NE, his daughter, Tessa and his ex-wife, Christine Flesher, both of Madison, his sister, Andrea (Tom) Kelly of Hollandale and their sons, Steve of Hollandale and Cory (Pam) and sons of Brooklyn, WI. He is further survived by his nephew, Clint Weier of Hollandale, his nieces, Mindy Long of Viola, WI and Toni Berg of Green Bay, WI, his aunts, Ruth Marie Olson of Darlington and Gladys Theobald of Hollandale as well as Carson's former mother-in-law, Muriel McCarville of Mineral Point and her family.

Carson was preceded in death by his parents, Viola and Otto Hegland, his sister, Kay Hegland Weier and other family members of the Andrew Hegland and J. Oscar Olson families.

A memorial service will be held at the Hollandale Lutheran Church on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at 11 a.m. The family will greet friends at the church, on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
