Edward H. Comstock, 82, president of the Edward Comstock Co. Inc., and former commissioner of public welfare here, died Saturday in Rome Hospital after a short illness.

A native Roman, Mr. Comstock was born September 2, 1874, son of Edward and Frances Hulett Comstock. He was graduated from the Phillips Academy at Andover, Mass in 1893 and from Yale University in 1897. He then joined his father's lumber firm and in 1923 was elected president of the company.

Mr. Comstock, who lived at 108 Maple street, was active in local affairs, serving as a director of the Farmers National Bank & Trust Co. until his resignation in 1942 and as a member of the Central New York School for the Deaf Board of Trustees from 1901 to 1949.

A vestryman of Zion Episcopal Church, Mr. Comstock at one time was president of the former Board of Health, was a charter member and past president of the Teugega Country Club, and a member of the Yale Club of New York City and the Rome Club.

Mr. Comstock married Mary Elizabeth Baker here December 28, 1913. She died several years ago.

Surviving are a son, Edward Comstock, Rome, a daughter, Mrs. Booth Mooney, Washington, DC, two sisters, Miss Margery Comstock, Rome and Mrs. Copeland Morton, Baltimore, Md, and four grandchildren.
