Martha Ruth Marie Olson, 84, of Paynesville, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at the Paynesville Area Hospital.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at the Crystal Hills Assembly of God Church in Paynesville. The Rev. Lonnie Gleitz Sr. will officiate. Burial will take place in Zion Cemetery, rural Paynesville.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, March 15) at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Martha was born Jan. 19, 1916, in Eden Lake Township, Stearns County, Minn., to Frank and Hattie (Frietag) Schauman. She attended District 43 school near Paynesville. She was baptized at the Gospel Tabernacle in Paynesville and has been a lifelong member of the Crystal Hills Assembly of God Church.
She married Kermit M. Olson on Dec. 26, 1936, in Spring Valley, Minn. They farmed in the Union Grove and Irving Townships until 1963, when they moved to Paynesville. In 1993, she moved to 700 Stearns Place where she enjoyed living, nurturing and renewing many friendships.
Martha enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, crocheting, fishing, reading and baking bread.
She is survived by her children, James (Liz) Olson of Coates, Minn., Johnnie (Pat) Olson of Paynesville, Elaine (Gary) Sonstegard of Montevideo, Kathryn (Michael) Niewind of Montrose, Verna (Kevin) Burr of Cold Spring, and Pamela (Bruce) Borgerding of Stillwater; 18 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren (two more arriving in March; brother, Harvey Schauman of Paynesville; and sisters, Lydia (Ben) Olson and Adella Houk, both of Paynesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Delores Sonstegard; granddaughter, Tracy Sonstegard; and brother, Edwin Schauman.
