Elbert W. Bland, one of the few remaining confederate veterans in this county, passed away at this home in Falmouth Tuesday morning after a long illness. Mr. Bland fought with Lee and was wounded in one of the battles. He made his home here for many years and is one of the pioneers of this section where he settled shortly after the Civil War. He is survived by a son, Walter Bland of Falmouth, three daughters, Mrs. Jesse Cannon, Falmouth, Mrs. D.T. O'Hara, Ellaville, and Mrs. Register, of Jasper; two brothers, Dave Bland, Hamilton County; and William Bland, Orange County; one sister, residing in Hamilton County. Funeral services were held at Mt. Gilead Church Wednesday afternoon in the presence of a host of sorrowing friends and relatives. Interment was made in the family lot in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
