Agnes A. Barger, 98, of (Pine Glen) Karthaus died at the home of her son, Thurman Witherite, Jr. and his wife, Violet, in (Pine Glen) Karthaus on Monday, March 21, 2005.

She was born in Clarence on June 25, 1906, a daughter of the late Edward Cole and Annie Ruthenberg Cole. Her husband, Samuel Barger, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Barger was a homemaker her entire life and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, quilting and cooking. She had attended the Snow Shoe United Methodist Church. She also attended the Community Alliance Church in Karthaus.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Hummel of Philipsburg; three sons, Robert Cole of Baltimore MD, Thurman Witherite, Jr. of Karthaus and Thomas Tarman of State College; two nephews whom she raised, Bill Cole of Baltimore, MD and Clair Cole of Cockeysville, MD; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

She was the last of her generation. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Thurman Witherite, Sr.; her second husband, Charles Tarman; one daughter, Mildred Poletis; one son, Edward Cole; three brothers; two sisters and one great-grandchild.
