The Rev. Harry Grant Harvey
The Rev. Harry Grant Harvey, 87, a retired Moscow minister, died of age-related causes Sunday at the Moscow Care Center in Moscow, Idaho. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pullman. Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow is in charge of arrangements.

PULLMAN -- A memorial service for the Rev. Harry Grant Harvey will be held at 2 p.m. today at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1300 SE Sunny Meade Way in Pullman. The Revs. Bob Harvey and Walt Oman will officiate.

Harvey, a Moscow resident, died from causes related to age Sunday at the Moscow Care Center. He was 87.

He was born Aug. 7, 1910, to Francis and Matilda Pletcher Harvey in Bellwood, Pa. He attended school in Ducane, Pa. Following graduation he attended Thiel College in Greenville, Pa., then moved to Gettysburg, Pa., where he graduated from Gettysburg Theological Seminary in 1936.

He married Virginia Johnson Aug. 17, 1937, in White Plains, N.Y., where he worked as a pastor in the Lutheran church for 12 years. They later moved to Nevada, where he was a minister at various Lutheran and Methodist churches. The family later moved to Washington, where he was pastor of churches in Filler and McClery until his retirement.

The couple moved to Moscow in 1990.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Clubs in the various places where the family lived.

He was interested in education and reading, especially history and the Civil War. In his early years he was involved in wrestling, boxing and track. He also enjoyed gardening.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Al Harvey of Moscow and Brian Harvey of Pullman; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow.
