Infantryan in WWII, served in the Asiatic Pacific. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, Two Bronze Stars, and other medals, during his service in the Army.

Floyd was a barber in San Angelo and Fort Worth, but then decided to start ranching at Goldthwaite after his marriage to Jerol.

He purchased the John Plummer farm of 140 acres in 1951 in the Trigger Mountain Community. On September 28, 1951, son, Mark was born.

In late December 1951, he and Jerol leased a farm on the Priddy Highway, seven miles North of Goldthwaite. They lived there five years, and then moved three miles North of Goldthwaite in 1957. They bought the Ida Sevier farm on the Caradan Road in 1953. Floyd had purchased part of the old Lake Merritt Schoolhouse, and built two rent houses in town after he came home from the war. They traded those two rent houses in on the Sevier Farm. Later, they purchased the Walter McFall farm at Trigger Mountain, joining the first farm they had bought.
