Donald Edward "Don" Dohmen, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at his home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Don, son of Frank A. and Emma G. (Backes) Dohmen, was born December 10, 1931 at Lindsay, Nebraska.

Don was baptized and confirmed at Lindsay Holy Family Catholic Church. In May of 1949 Don graduated from Lindsay Holy Family Catholic School. He entered the United States Army on March 28, 1952 and served in Korea until receiving an honorable discharge on January 7, 1954.

On August 17, 1955, Don was united in marriage to Janet Agnes Shemek at Tarnov, Nebraska. Over the years they lived at Lindsay, York, Scribner, Lincoln, Beaver Crossing, Harvard, Albion and Lincoln (all in Nebraska). He was employed with Farmers Coop of Lindsay, Bradshaw, Scribner, Agnew, Beaver Crossing and Harvard, Nebraska. He also worked for Sands Pork Food in Spalding and served as the Boone County Veteran's Service Officer, Albion, Nebraska.

Don was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and Forty & Eight (40 & 8). He held offices as the Mayor of Lindsay, Legion Post Commander, Chairman of the Korean War Reunion, and VFW Commander. He was a member of the Catholic faith and over the years he has been a member at Holy Family, St. Joseph's, St. Lawrence, St. Mary's, Sacred Heart, St. Joseph's, St. Michael's and North American Martyrs. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight. He also served as an Acolyte for the Catholic Church, and taught CCD for many years.

Don was very devoted to his faith, family and country. He also loved listening to music, singing, cooking, gardening, playing cards and building many things.

Surviving are: wife, Janet Dohmen of Lincoln; daughters, Linda (Jerome) Gamble of Lincoln, NE; Laurie (Darrell) Marquardt of Omaha, NE; Lynette (Dan) Youssi of Milwaukee, WI; Leone (Mark) Eikenhorst of Utica, NE; sons, Ken (Jan) Dohmen of Treynor, IA; David (Mary) Dohmen of York, NE; Duane (Julie) Dohmen of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren: Desarai and Shawn Krogh, Jessika and Rob Harris, Caleb and Kade Dohmen, Nicholas and Lindsay Marquardt and Tera Marquardt; Veronica and Dave Murray and Christopher, Jobe, Jared and Whitney Youssi; Kenon Dohmen and fiancé Savanna Heyer and Atley and Brensley Dohmen, April and fiancé Trent Heyen, Shelby, Easton Eikenhorst and Damon and Heather Eikenhorst; Hannah and Emily Dohmen; great-grandchildren: ShaRaia, Hayden, Macey, Drake, Sophie, Bella and Hudson Krogh; Michael and Matthew Murray; Ella Mohnike, Raelynn Eikenhorst; brothers: Jim (Dorothy) Dohmen of Mechanicsville, IA; Melvin (Mary) Dohmen of Sargeant Bluffs, IA; sisters: Ethelene Lux of Shelby, NE and Imelda Livingston of Fort Collins, CO; brother-in-law: Dick (Vicki) Preuss of Lindsay, NE; sister-in-law: Joan Stec of Duncan, NE. and a host of family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by: parents, Frank and Emma; father and mother-in-law, Alphonse and Sophie Shemek; sisters, Lucille Busselman and husband Glen and Mary Lou Preuss; brother-in-law, Francis Lux; brother-in-law: Leo Stec; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Hermie and Heney Krings.

Interment was Holy Family Cemetery, Lindsay, Nebraska with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #162 and VFW Post #736 of Albion, Nebraska.
