VETERAN OGDEN RAILROAD MAN ENDS CAREER
OGDEN. Nov 15.--James Cassin, 86, western pioneer, died here yesterday of heart attack.
Mr. Cassin, a native of Vermont, came west at the age of 17 and walked across the Isthmus of Panama to void the long journey across the horn. Landing in San Francisco, he went to Virginia City, Nev., where he engaged in the mining business for several years.
Later he became associated with the Central Pacific railroad. He came to Ogden in 1888, where he was elected assessor. For many years prior to his death he was engaged in insurance and real estate business.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Martha Hadlock Cassin, whom he married fifty-six years ago; two daughters and a son.
