CALUMET -?Edward F. Grahek, 81, a resident of Calumet, passed away Sunday morning, December 12, 2004, at Our Lady of Mercy Nursing Home in Hubbell where he was a resident patient since September of 2001.

He was born on March 29, 1923 in Calumet, a son of the late Jacob and Mary (Zimmerman) Grahek and was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School with the class of 1941. He moved to Cleveland before WW II. After service, he lived in Detroit for a short time before returning to Calumet where he made his home since.
Locally, he was employed by Calumet & Hecla Mining Company, Thurner's Bakery and for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 24 years, retiring in 1983.

He was united in marriage to Margarite Jean Renwick on February 6, 1951 in Calumet.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WW II and received the purple heart.

Edward was a member of Sacred Heart Church of Calumet, life member of the Copper Country Chapter 27 DAV of Laurium and former member of Calumet Elks Lodge 404 B.P.O.E.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jake and Frank; and a sister, Margaret Pacini.

Surviving are his wife, Margarite (Jean); a brother, Anthony (Pauline) Grahek of Laurium; three sisters, Mary (Earl) Sheppard of Benzonia, Mich., Anne (Francis) Shea of Troy, Mich., Isabel (Greg) Shaltz of Huron, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church of Calumet with Fr. Abraham Mupparathara to officiate. Spring burial to be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 14, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m. or at www.ericksoncrowley.com.

A prayer service will be held on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m.
