DEADLY WORK OF THE GRIM REAPER
DEATH CLAIMED JAMES RUSSELL ABBETT, OF NEWARK, ON DECEMBER 15.

James Russell Abbett was born in Trimball [sic] county, Kentucky, on June 5, 1858, and departed this life on December 15, 1932, aged 74 years, 8 months and 10 days.
He was the son of Thomas Walker and Sarah E. Abbett. He was united in marriage to Miss Kate Elizabeth Steffen, of Newark, on January 1, 1885.
To this union three boys were born, viz.: Ira, Guy and Bertie Lee. Bertie Lee preceded him in death on November, 1918. He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife, two sons and four sisters, viz.: Mrs. Alice Meyers, Mrs. Inez Meyers and Mrs. Virginia Lee Kimball, all of Newark, and Mrs. Lizzie Todd, of Lincoln, Nebraska. One brother and four sisters precede him in death. Four grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
Mr. Abbett, who has been an invalid for almost three years passed away very peacefully at the home of his son, Guy, with whom he had made his home the past year. His entire married life was spent at this home with the exception of a period a few years, when he lived in Newark.
All that medical skill and loving hands could do was done, but it seemed to please his Heavenly Father to call him home, where the blessings of a noble life awaits him, for he was a man of noble qualities of mind and heart which made him loved by all who knew him.
Surely we have lost a good man, a kind friend and a loving father, but our loss is his eternal gain.
The funeral was held in the home of Guy Abbett, conducted by Walter Lear, of the Christian church, of Newark. The pallbearers were Everett Steffen, Archie Meyers, Leonard Kimball, Willie Lindsey. Henry R. Steffen and Jack Janney. Interment was in the I. O. O. F. cemetery, near Newark.
