RANSOME WINSTON-SALEM Clara Eugenia Davis Ransome Dec. 25, 1925 - Dec. 2, 2013 Mrs. Clara Eugenia Davis Ransome, 87, died on Monday, December 2, 2013, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Clara was born on December 25, 1925 in Surry County to the late John Claude and Viola Burcham Davis. Clara grew up in Elkin before moving to Winston-Salem at age 18. It was there that she met her husband, Cotton Ransome. She was a member of First Alliance Church, where she attended for over 60 years. She retired from Hanes Hosiery after many years of service. Clara enjoyed retirement, but stayed busy, traveling between their home in Winston-Salem and their mountain home in Laurel Springs, NC. She was a gracious hostess, always ready to offer a cup of coffee and a piece of her famous chocolate or coconut cake. Her cakes were a coveted Christmas gift to friends and neighbors, but the greatest gift was having her for a Mama and an "Uma". She was a feisty little lady with a huge heart, who was always there for her family and always willing to listen, share a laugh, or offer her wise advice. In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband of almost 66 years, Luther McDonald "Cotton" Ransome, and one brother, John R. Davis. She is survived by son, Terry Ransome and wife Diane; daughter, Barbara "Bobbie" George; granddaughter, Amy Berry and husband Jason; two cherished great-grandchildren, Jesse and Emma Berry; and two beloved sisters, Annie Davis Holbrook and Ruth Davis Holbrook. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013 at First Alliance Church in Winston-Salem with Pastor Jeff Lonsinger officiating. Entombment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park.
