Born Nov. 11, 1920 in Corning, Ohio, she was the daughter of Emmett and Edna (Myers) Smith.
Mrs. Sands was devoted to her family.
Survivors include her husband, James, to whom she had been married 57 years; sons, Floyd (Cheryl) of Ravenna and Jim (Pearl) of Ravenna; daughters, Ruth (Kenny) Timms of Garrettsville, Bonnie (Butch) Roosa of Freedom, Janet (Richard) Sabo of Ravenna, Fay (Dale) Hunt of Lakeland, Fla., Clara (Perry) Jones of Anniston, Ala., Martha (Brownie) Lovejoy of Ravenna, Mary (Tony) Rossego of Twin Lakes and Flo (Rod) Stanley of McDonald, 38 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Smith of Florida, Phil Smith of Rootstown and Pete Smith of Coshocton. Her son, A.J.; daughter, Dolly Frietage; brothers, Tom, Bill, Homer, John and Bob Smith; sisters, Alice and Blanch; and one great-grandchild died previously.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 tonight and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Wood-Kortright Funeral Home, Ravenna Chapel, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Tallmadge Ballew officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
