Hosea served as a Private in Co D, 102 IL Infantry. He enlisted 19 July 1862 at Galesburg, mustered at Knoxville on 2 September 1862, and was discharged for disability at Louisville, Kentucky on 4 December 1862. His obit in a Monmouth newspaper stated he was taken to Galesburg for burial, but Monmouth cemetery sextons records show he was buried in Monmouth on 27 February 1894, although no lot was listed in the record. His obituary stated he was survived by 2 sons (unnamed) who could not be located, and his elderly wife. It stated he received a pension, which is interesting. A widow's pension was filed 5 months after his death from the state of Iowa, by his former wife, Mrs. Almira (Lee) Thorn Rounds, and a contested widow applied from Illinois in 1898, Mrs. Elizabeth (Honts) Rounds. He also married Mrs. Nancy Parker in 1869, who was apparently "Amy" of the 1870 and 1880 census; it appears she died at the Knox county alms house, Knoxville, in 1886. He married Mrs. Sallie Maria (Cheesbro) Baggland in Galesburg on 11 April 1887, and 5 months later to Mrs. Elizabeth (Honts) Nickerson in Burlington, on 23 September 1887. Both of the 1887 marriage records listed him as the son of Russel Rounds and Hannah Rogers.
He was born in New York & came to Illinois with his family before 1850. His first wife, Lydia (1815 - 1859) is buried at Hope Cemetery in Galesburg, Knox, IL. He remarried and moved to Monmouth, Warren, IL where he died at the age of 81 years. He had a
son named Charles and a daughter named Matilda.
