Edward C. Dix, former member of the Menasha Council, pioneer resident of this vicinity and prominent church worker, died Wednesday evening at 10 o'clock at his home, 515 First Street, Menasha, where he had been confined the past six months with a heart ailment. His condition for some time had been considered critical but he rallied several weeks ago and appeared on the way to recovery until Monday when he suffered a relapse.
Mr. Dix was born Nov. 19, 1873, at Woodville, Calumet County. He moved with his parents to the town of Vinland when a boy and later went to Stockbridge to learn the trade of blacksmith. When 18 years of age he came to Menasha to accept a position at the Fieweger Wagon Shop and later formed a partnership with the late Charles Hook in a blacksmith shop conducted at the present site of the Claude Mayer Agency on Main Street. During the past 20 years he had been employed at the plant of the Gilbert Paper Company.
Mr. Dix was a devout member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served in 1906 and 1907 in the common council under Mayor August Hemming as alderman for the old Fourth Ward.
Survivors are his widow; one son, Edward E. Dix, Menasha; three brothers, Lewis, Neenah, and Fred and Oscar, Colby, and one sister, Mrs. Blaine Wells, Neenah.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the residene and 2 o'clock at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. Paul G Bergmann officiating. Vestrymen of the church will serve as bearers and the memorial wreath will be in charge of Walter Thornton. Friends may call at the resident from noon Friday until the time of the funeral.
