Don Whitt, 75, of Elliott County, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 3, 2013, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Feb. 14, 1938, to the late Othie and Dovie Robinson Whitt of Elliott County.

He was retired from Local 1445 as a laborer for many years and was a Christian of the Baptist faith.

He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Woody Whitt, Vincent Whitt and George Whitt; four sisters, Julie Smith, Myrtle Salyers, Mary Mauk and Dixie Elam; a stepson, Beecher Yates; and three stepgrandsons, Kevin Markwell, William Bond Jr. and Eric Yates.

He is surved by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Sloas Whitt; two sons, Donnie (Kimberly) Whitt of Grayson and John Whitt (Shan Shayles) of Carmel, Calif.; seven stepchildren he loved as his own, Margaret (Darrell) Smith of Sandy Hook, James (Vivian) Yates of Olive Hill, Ronnie (Emina) Yates of Columbia, S.C., Janet (Woody) Caudill of Morehead, Jenanne (Eric) Pearson of Williamston, N.C., and Sandra (Ervin) Markwell of Sandy Hook; a brother, Jim Whitt of Grayson; two sisters, Sue (Charles) Johnson of Grayson and Katherine Waddell of Sandy Hook; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lewis and Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook by Brother Rich Halcombe and Elder Tim Porter. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. All of his neighbors and friends will be honorary pallbearers.
