Rachel M. Motter, 86, of Venus died December 4, 2013 at the home of her granddaughter, Heather Comstock, after a long illness. Born August 17, 1927 she was the daughter of James F. and Hattie A. Lewis Hogg.


She graduated for Worthington High School in 1945, from Fellers Beauty School in Oil City in 1946, and received her cosmetology teachers certificate in 1969.


In 1946, she married Donald W. Motter, who died January 9, 2003.


She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Venus, operated a beauty shop at her home in Hampton Station from 1956 to 1969, worked for General Telephone for 3 years, worked for 10 years for National Fuel until her retirement. Prior to their retirement she and her husband had a home built on Pine Island in Florida and had many friends there. After her retirement they enjoyed spending their winters in Hawaii with their daughter Teresa, and with their son Tom in North Carolina. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed traveling and square dancing with her husband, and were members of the Lucky Twirlers. She enjoyed hunting, and riding with her son-in-law on his Harley-Davidson. She was a member of the Ruth Circle at Faith Lutheran Church, was a quilter at the church, and was a honorary member of the 159th Combat Engineers of the US Army.


Surviving are a son Thomas L Motter and wife Mary Ellen of Lexington NC; a daughter Cynthia M Coogan and husband James of Madisonville, TN, and their summer home in Ahrensville; a daughter Teresa M Wrhen and husband Alan of Deland, FL; daughter-in-law Judy Knight of Clayton NC; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are her parents; husband; sisters, Emma Campbell and Nora Winifred Stroup; and a foster son Timothy Knight. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.


Services will be at the Faith Lutheran Church in Venus with Rev. John A. Wood officiating. Burial will be in Venus Cemetery.
