David Lawrence Garber, of Portage, Michigan, passed away July 12, 2003, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

David was born on July 16, 1963, in Detroit, to Lawrence and Martha (Doty) Garber. He spent his childhood years in Cadillac, Michigan, graduating from Cadillac Senior High School in 1981. David graduated from the University of Michigan in 1985, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

On May 25, 1986, David married his high school sweetheart, Amy Jo Kleyn. He began his career with Waddell & Reed Financial Services in Bellevue, Washington in June of 1986. He and Amy moved to Kalamazoo in 1987, where David built his business as a certified financial planner. He was highly respected by both clients and the company, and he received numerous awards for his outstanding achievements with Waddell & Reed.

David and Amy have four beloved children, Michael, Lawrence, Emily, and Jacob, whose lives have been richly blessed by a devoted father who cherished his time spent with them. He encouraged and praised their efforts academically, artistically, and athletically. David was happiest of all when he and his family were aboard their sailboat, the "Grateful Sled", sailing the waters of Lake Michigan.

David was a member of Southridge Reformed Church, and his faith gave him great comfort during his illness.

David is survived by his wife, Amy, and their children of Portage; parents, Martha and Lawrence Garber of Honor; sisters, Liz (Peter) Bruning of Traverse City, Marty (John) Thiede of Bozeman, Montana, and Susan (Todd) Vigland of Interlochen; and eight nieces and nephews.
