Asa Carl Atkins, Jr. of Lilburn, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013.

Carl was born on August 4, 1925, in Buffalo, West Virginia, to Mary Alice Ulbrich and Asa Carl Atkins, Sr.

He was drafted into World War II when he was a senior in high school and served in the Navy, participating in the D-Day attack on Omaha Beach aboard an LCT.

He returned to Buffalo and completed his education after his discharge.

He retired from Columbus Coated Fabrics, later a division of Borden Chemical Company, in Columbus, Ohio.

Carl's family and friends will remember his dedication to his family, his unique outlook on life, his wood carving and wine making skills, his carpentry skills and his innate ability to solve every household problem that could possibly arise.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah (Sallie) Burns Atkins; his son, Aaron Scott Atkins; and his grandson, Gregory Michael Atkins, all of Lilburn, as well as his sisters, Vivian Marie Atkins of Newark, Ohio, and Judith Ulbrich Britton of Sarasota, Florida.
