Geraldine Dorothy "Gerry" Luehrsen Burtness, age 89, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013, at Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing in Beloit. She was born Sept. 9, 1923, to Amanda Louise (Licht) and Albert William Luehrsen in Loganville, WI. She attended school there and graduated from Reedsburg High School in 1941. After graduation, she lived in Madison, and worked as an x-ray technician and a medical secretary. She married Glen Burtness in 1957, and lived in Orfordville, for over 50 years. Gerry worked with Glen in the family businesses: Burtness Chevrolet, Inc. and Burtness Transportation, Inc. for many years. Following Glen's death on Feb. 14, 2009, she resided at St. Elizabeth Manor in Footville, for over three years. She was a member of New Horizon United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Janesville Elks Ladies.

Gerry is survived by her children: daughters, Sue (Dennis) Belt of Mountain Home, ID, Kay (Dennis) Marinelli of Beloit, and son, Jeffrey (Gina) Burtness of Fort Wayne, IN; two grandchildren, Rhonda (Ted) Wenzel of Boise, ID, and Robert (Angelia) Beutow of Meridian, ID; and five great-grandchildren: Erin and Eric Rowell, Jessica Wenzel, Linzy and Nicholas Beutow. She is also survived by a sister, Gertrude Schroeder of Madison, and her beloved nieces and nephews: William Schroeder, Lynn Schroeder Teehan, Kris (Pat) Fleming, Jan Schroeder, all of Madison, Sara (Paul) Feldman of Atlanta, GA, John (Jean) Luehrsen of Madison, Mary (Peter) Young of Port Chester, NY, and Paul (Saralyn) Luehrsen of Nashville, TN; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Burtness of Orfordville, and Eleanor Luehrsen of Reedsburg, and many other dear family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Glen; brother, Donald; and brother-in-law, Wilbert Schroeder.

Special appreciation is given to The Heights Assisted Living in Evansville, and Premier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing in Beloit, for the care and considerations given to Mom from all of their wonderful employees. A heartfelt thank you is also given to Bill, Lynn, Kris, Jan, and Sara, for their devotion to Mom throughout her life and her final days.

A memorial service will be held at NEW HORIZON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Hwy 11 W and 1726 South Murphy Road, rural Footville, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2013, with Reverend Wendy Slaback officiating. Private inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held at the CHURCH from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to New Horizon United Methodist Church or Maple Grove Cemetery Association.
