GEORGE A. HALL
VERONA, Aug 9 – George A. Hall, a highly respected resident of this vicinity, died Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock in his home, two miles west of this village, following a period of two years poor health. He was born in Rome, August 19, 1845, the son of the late George T. and Catharine Hall. His early life was spent in Rome and before locating on the Hall farm lived in Durhamville, Oneida Lake and other places. For more than 40 years, he lived where he died. He served during the Civil War, his first enlistment being in the Fifth New York Cavalry, and his second enlistment was with the One Hundred and Seventeenth New York Volunteers. Mr. Hall was an active member of the Warren Post, G. A. R of Verona.
On January 3, 1867 in Higginsville, he married Maria Suits. They had three sons and one daughter. Two of the sons were killed on the New York Central Railroad and both met their deaths in accidents. John was terribly scalded in the cab of his engine in Schenectady 13 years ago and lived five days. A few years later, his brother Fred was fearfully injured between Little Falls and Utica when the engine on which he was working blew up. He died a few hours later. Mr. Hall is survived by his widow, one son, Albert A. Hall of Bridgeport, Conn., and one daughter, Mrs. Fred Jones, of Oneida. There is also one grandchild, Frederica Hall, daughter of the late Fred Hall, and two brothers, William D. Hall of Charlotte, Mich., and Charles Hall of Oneida; also three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Warren of Rochester, Mrs. Carrie L. Purdy, South Haven, Mich., and Mrs. Mary Coe, Stockbridge. The funeral will be held at the late home on Thursday afternoon at 2 o' clock
