Thank you for your work on Find A Grave, I have some information for you regarding the Sarah Scruggs Taylor memorial. I have recently done a tremendous amount research on William Taylor, his wife Sarah Scruggs, and their children. I believe you have confused two different William Taylor families/ Both William Taylors were born in Virginia and died in North Carolina so the error is understandable. I have plenty of evidence to share with you. Do you use with FamilySearch or Ancestry? I would be happy to direct you to my work on either site.

William Taylor, who married Sally Scruggs, lived in Virginia, until about shortly before 1800. William and Sarah were both born in Henrico County, Virgina. Today this area in Powhatan County as there were multiple county boundary changes. The couple moved to Pittsylvania County, and county boundary changes put them in Henry and Patrick County. They next moved to Stokes North Carolina. William’s will was probated there in June of 1803. While the death year is the same as the William Taylor in the Machpelah Cemetery, the dates are different. Furthermore, our William died in Stokes and is likely buried there. He had no connection to Vance County. Our Sarah “Sally” Taylor lived at least another 20 years, Stokes County estate records for William Taylor show Sally claiming her dower share of William’s estate in 1825. Again, our Sarah “Sally” Scruggs Taylor could not be the individual buried in Machpelah Cemetery in 1803. There was a legal dispute over Williams’s estate and a neighbor, Reuben Moore, filed a petition in 1824 to force division of the estate. He named the heirs of William Taylor, and they include Benjamin Hawkins and his wife, Molly Taylor:

William Taylor decd leaving
William
Isaac
Sally intermarried with Bowles Abingdon
Joseph
Susan intermarried with Matthew Deatherage
Molly intermarried with Benjamin Hawking
Robert

Many, many people rely on Find A Grave to accurately connect them with family. I hope you will correct the record bytaking the following actions:

Remove the maiden name Scruggs from the Sarah Taylor record.
Remove the biographical line indicating she is the mother of Mary Molly Taylor, wife of Benjamin Hawkins.
Remove the Parent-child link for this grave to Mary “Molly” Taylor.

Together we can correct the record for the Taylor family.

Thank you again for your work and for considering this new information.

Kindest regards,

Vanessa
