Roman H. Bockholt, 86, of Sioux City died Monday, Aug. 2, 2009, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Bruch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Roman was born June 3, 1923, in Fordyce, Neb., to Henry and Cecilia (Kremer) Bockholt. He attended schools in Constance, Neb. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the Philippines and Korea.
He married Bernadette Steffen on April 14, 1947, in Constance. She preceded him in death on Oct. 23, 2005.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing odd jobs for family and friends. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
He is survived by two sons, Mike Bockholt and John Bockholt, both of Sioux City; a daughter, Donna (Tom) Mullen of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Paul and Brian Bockholt; a daughter-in-law, Patti Bockholt; three brothers, Leo, Sal and Nubs Bockholt; and a sister, Betty Steffen.
