U.S. Congressman. He attended Hamilton College, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1840 and practiced law in Sherburne, New York. He was examiner in chancery for Chenango County, in 1842 and special county surrogate of Chautauqua County, (1853-55). In 1855, he was elected as the candidate of the American Party to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving until 1857. After his term, he resumed the practice law, was City Attorney of Dunkirk, (1859-68) and was elected police justice in 1895, serving until his death at age 81.
