MRS. CORA MCKEE DIED ON SUNDAY


Member of Pioneer Family in Winterset Area Was 89 Years of Age


Mrs. Cora McKee, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died Sunday, May 21, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. She was 89 years of age.


Mrs. McKee was the former Cora Alice Banks, daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth Crawford Banks. Her grandparents, John and Eunice James Banks, and James and Ascha McCoy Crawford all were natives of North Carolina who came to Madison county in 1855. Her grandfather, James Crawford was the first person buried in the Primitive Baptist cemetery near Winterset.


Mrs. McKee was born near Winterset Jan. 11, 1878, and spent her life here. She attended the Dexter Normal academy and taught in the rural schools of the county. She was married April 6, 1904, to Frank R. McKee. His death occurred in 1961.


She is survived by three sons, Harry and Elmer McKee of Winterset and Clive McKee of Tujunga, Calif.; three granddaughters; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. J. W. McKee of Winterset.


Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. William Bowles, pastor of the First Christian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
