Born 18 Sep 1843 Cleveland, Tenn. The son of Judge Bynum Hampton Jarnagin of East Tennessee and Amelia Harle, sister of Col. John Harle; family established in East Tennessee by Capt. Thomas Jarnagin of Virginia. French Huguenot who moved to Franklin District 1782 and was son of Thomas Jarnagin and grandson of Chesley Jarnagin; before war lived in Tunica Co., Miss. After the war they lived in Bolivar Co., Miss., until a move to Memphis 1889. He married 26 Oct 1865 to Mattie H. Porter, daughter of Rev. Elias R. Porter and Harriet S. McGehee.
