Joseph G. Cathers Died at Rathmel

Had Spent Most of His Life in this Section of the County

Joseph Grant Cathers, who had spent most of his life in the vicinity of Rathmel and was very well known here died at his home in that place Thursday evening, July 4th, 1912, very unexpectedly.

For a short period before he had been suffering with diabetes, but it was not considered serious, and on the morning of the day of his death he had gone to Sykesville to consult Dr. Henneigh. While there he suddenly became much worse and Dr. Henneigh had to bring him to his home in his car. He did not rally and at ten that night breathed his last.

Mr. Cathers was born in Jefferson county February 2, 1863 and was 49 years old at the time of his death. He was the son of William T. Cathers, who at the venerable age of eighty seven still survives. Joseph Cathers was twice married, his first wife dying several years ago. One daughter, Miss Cora, of Rathmel, survives from that union. The widow and four children, by the second marriage, survive. The children are: Fred, Mabel, Emma and Floyd (sic Lloyd).

About five years ago, Mr. Cathers moved to New Kensington, but returned to Rathmel about three years ago, and has since lived there. He was highly esteemed by all and his sudden death was a shock to the community.

The funeral was held at the residence in Rathmel Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.F. Black, and burial was made in the Reynoldsville Cemetery.

Mr. Cathers is also survived by four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Albert Coodle, and Mrs. Thomas Butler, of Lockport, N.Y., Mrs. George Hughes of Reynoldsville, and W.A. Cathers of Sykesville.
